Can It

 

As the first unit of my third year, I was asked to choose a competition brief to complete and submit, from a choice of D&AD, RSA and ISTD. The brief I chose was from RSA, entitled Sustainable Metals, which you can download here. The brief outlines a need for the promotion of metal food cans as a sustainable food packaging resource. One of the key quotes from the brief that really drove my response was the need to create a 'positive attitude among packaging decision makers, giving them confidence to choose cans.'

 

Sustainability is an issue that all designers, including myself, are going to have to embrace more and more, and not just on a superficial level. This was one of the reasons I chose this brief, as well as wanting to create something modern and forward thinking that was focused on a very old and familiar piece of design.
